SpaceX employs a workforce of roughly 10,000 people spread across manufacturing, launch, and corporate functions. Recent hiring added nearly 900 employees while attrition was under 700, resulting in a modest net increase in total headcount. This balanced growth reflects the company’s continued investment in both rocket production and satellite-internet initiatives without large swings in overall staffing levels.
Engineering is by far the largest organization at SpaceX, accounting for more than half of all employees with over 5,500 engineers designing, building, and testing vehicles and spacecraft. Operations follows at about 1,700 employees who handle manufacturing, supply chain, and launch preparation. Business Management, Quality, Finance & Administration, and Information Technology collectively represent another 1,900 professionals that support day-to-day execution and compliance. Customer-facing groups such as Sales & Support, Human Resources, and Marketing & Product make up a smaller share of the workforce, each remaining under 3% of total headcount. Overall, hiring has been concentrated in technical and operations roles, aligning with the company’s hardware-focused roadmap.
SpaceX’s largest concentration of employees is in the greater Los Angeles area, where roughly 2,400 people work at the Hawthorne headquarters and nearby facilities. The Seattle region, home to Starlink satellite development, hosts more than 700 team members. Launch and test sites in Brownsville, Cape Canaveral, and other U.S. coastal regions collectively employ over 800 staff who support mission operations. Additional offices and engine test locations in Austin, Long Beach, Torrance, Redondo Beach, and Melbourne each house between 100 and 200 employees. A sizable remainder is distributed across other U.S. and international sites, underscoring the geographically diverse nature of SpaceX’s manufacturing and launch activities.
