How to integrate Unify with IFTTT
To integrate Unify with IFTTT, create an Applet using Receive a web request with a JSON payload and POST the prospect object from a Unify Play. Use the URL containing /json/ and your Webhooks key. IFTTT exposes the body as one JSON ingredient; configure how the action consumes it.[1][3]

- JSON payload
At a glance
- Choose the JSON trigger and copy its matching URL
- Send only the context needed by the selected action
- Decide whether to use the whole ingredient or parse separate fields
When this workflow makes sense
Start with the decision your team needs to make, then choose the connection that supports it.
Use an Applet when the desired outcome is narrow and easy to inspect, such as an internal notification or a lightweight personal task. Choose the minimum prospect fields required for that action. A full JSON object offers flexibility, but it also means the Applet must decide how to interpret and map the body.
A good fit when
Small, clearly scoped actions in services already connected to an IFTTT account.
Reconsider the plan when
A shared operational queue with strong ownership, complex recovery, or a durable storage requirement may need a different receiving system.
Design the handoff
Use this framework to agree on the input, the next action, and who owns the result.
Suggested workflow design, based on the documented capabilities below.
| Stage | Decision to make |
|---|---|
| Trigger | Choose the JSON trigger and copy its matching URL |
| Input | Send only the context needed by the selected action |
| Mapping | Decide whether to use the whole ingredient or parse separate fields |
| Check | Inspect the final action with complete and incomplete samples |

Create a lightweight internal notification
An owner wants a simple signal when a selected prospect needs attention.
Keep the notification focused on one decision and one recipient or surface.
- Choose the connected destination action
- Map only the required prospect context
- Send a sample and inspect the notification
Map individual fields from the JSON body
A destination expects separate values rather than one JSON string.
A successful trigger does not establish that each destination field is correct.
- Confirm access to filter code
- Parse the sample and map action fields
- Test a missing email and a complete record
Illustrative workflow, not a preconfigured automation. Complete these checks in your own account.
Define success before launch
Inspect the data and the intended outcome separately. Connection status is only the first check.
Expected, not tested
The Applet receives the sample object and its selected action uses the intended values without flattening them into the wrong field.
Inspect Applet activity and the actual destination. Successful receipt alone does not demonstrate that parsing or the action produced the intended result.

Questions answered
Common decisions when connecting Unify and IFTTT.
Which IFTTT trigger should I use for the sample prospect?
Use Receive a web request with a JSON payload. Its URL includes /json/ and accepts the complete prospect object.[3]
Can the ordinary trigger accept arbitrary individual fields?
The ordinary Receive a web request trigger exposes value1, value2, and value3. The JSON-payload trigger instead provides the body as a single JSON ingredient.[3]
How do I map prospect_email to an action field?
Parse MakerWebhooks.jsonEvent.JsonPayload in filter code, then use the extracted prospect_email property with the selected action’s supported field setter.[4]
Do I need an Authorization header?
The documented trigger URL contains your account’s Webhooks key. This example uses that URL-key mechanism without a separate Authorization header.[3]
Is the Webhooks service included in the free plan?
The current IFTTT documentation places Webhooks on paid plans. Check the plan needed for filter code if your Applet parses the JSON.[5]
Limits & decisions
Check these boundaries before designing a live workflow around the connection.
- The full URL contains a credential and should remain private
- An Applet must have a compatible connected action
- Filter-code availability depends on the current plan
- This is a proposed operational Applet, not a guaranteed enterprise ingestion path
- No live Applet or destination action has been tested
What the connection supports
Understand the connection, the data involved, and the behavior that matters for a Unify + IFTTT workflow.
POST / JSON
| Decision | What to know |
|---|---|
| Trigger choice | JSON-payload trigger uses an additional /json/ path segment[3] |
| Input | The complete JSON body is exposed as one ingredient[4] |
| Mapping | Filter code can parse that ingredient for individual action fields[4] |
| Access | The Webhooks key is included in the trigger URL[3] |
| Eligibility | Webhooks requires a paid plan; confirm filter-code access separately[5] |

Connection requirements and setup checklist
Before connecting
- A Unify Play with a Webhook action
- An IFTTT plan with Webhooks access
- An Applet using the JSON-payload Webhooks trigger and a connected destination action
- A plan supporting filter code if you need to parse or transform individual JSON properties
Choose the JSON trigger
Create an Applet with Receive a web request with a JSON payload. Choose an event name and copy Your webhook URL. Confirm it contains /json/ rather than the standard three-value trigger path.[3]
Map the ingredient intentionally
The full body arrives as one JSON Payload ingredient. Use an action that accepts it, or parse it with filter code using JSON.parse(MakerWebhooks.jsonEvent.JsonPayload) and map the extracted fields into the selected action.[4]
Request configuration
- Method
POST- URL pattern
https://maker.ifttt.com/trigger/YOUR_EVENT/json/with/key/YOUR_WEBHOOKS_KEY- Headers
Content-Type: application/json- Authentication
- The Webhooks key is part of the generated URL. Use authentication None in Unify for this URL-key method, keep the full URL private, and update the sender if you regenerate the key.
Choose JSON as the body format. Unify sets Content-Type automatically. The receiver must respond within Unify’s 8-second timeout; request responses are not passed to later Play steps.[2]
Replace URL placeholders with the actual receiver URL from your account or deployed application. These example URLs are not working endpoints.
Example handoff payload
Start with a fictional prospect. Validate the resolved values before using a real record.
Inspect the sample payload and field mapping
{
"event": "prospect_handoff",
"prospect_name": "Alex Morgan",
"prospect_email": "alex@example.com",
"company_name": "Example Company",
"company_domain": "example.com"
}Fictional data. Replace sample values before using a real Play.
The keys are an example handoff format, not required Unify field names. Use the field mapping to distinguish record data from fixed settings. Select available fields in your Play and inspect Expand preview; do not replace configuration values with prospect data.[2]
| Payload field | Value to send |
|---|---|
event | A fixed label you choose for this workflow |
prospect_name | Use {{ person.first_name }} and {{ person.last_name }} for the prospect name |
prospect_email | Use {{ person.email }}; decide how to handle missing values |
company_name | Use {{ company.name }} |
company_domain | Use {{ company.domain }} |
This example uses the whole JSON object, not value1, value2, and value3. Individual prospect properties are not automatically separate ingredients; parse the JSON when the selected action needs distinct fields.
Troubleshooting
Start with the stage where the expected data or action stops appearing.
JSON Payload is empty
Check that the URL includes /json/ and the Applet uses the JSON-payload trigger. The standard Receive a web request endpoint is a different path.[4]
All fields appear in one destination cell
The JSON body is a single ingredient. Parse and map its properties if the destination needs separate fields.[4]
