How to integrate Unify with Slack
To integrate Unify with Slack, authorize the Slack workspace in Unify’s integration settings, then add a Slack alert action to a Play. Choose a public channel or user DM, include relevant record context, and test the message with a record you control.[1]

- Connect the intended Slack workspace
- Choose a public channel or user DM in the Play action
- Check missing values, mentions, and intent context in a controlled alert
When this workflow makes sense
Start with the decision your team needs to make, then choose the connection that supports it.
An alert should reduce the work needed to understand an account. Choose a public channel when the team needs shared visibility, or a user DM for an individual handoff. Keep the message specific enough to act on, and make missing values understandable rather than presenting them as known facts.
A good fit when
Teams that want a human review step inside a Unify Play before deciding on follow-up.
Reconsider the plan when
If every minor activity produces an alert without a clear owner or next step, narrow the triggering criteria before adding more notifications.
Design the handoff
Use this framework to agree on the input, the next action, and who owns the result.
Suggested workflow design, based on the documented capabilities below.
| Stage | Decision to make |
|---|---|
| Signal | Choose the activity or Play stage that is useful enough to notify someone about. |
| Destination | Select a public channel for shared review or the intended user for a DM. |
| Message | Include observed context and clarify what the recipient should review next. |
| Ownership | Check the destination user and any account-owner mention independently. |

Send a team review alert
A signal deserves review in a shared team channel before anyone contacts the account.
Keep the message factual: who the account is, what activity was observed, and what the next reviewer should check.
- Connect the intended workspace
- Choose a public channel in the Slack alert action
- Test a record with complete data and one with a missing value
Notify the responsible teammate
A Play reaches a handoff step and a specific teammate needs the context.
Check the destination user and any account-owner mention independently.
- Choose the user DM destination
- Add available record context and the intended owner mention
- Run a controlled record through the action

Define success before launch
Inspect the data and the intended outcome separately. Connection status is only the first check.
Expected, not tested
A Slack message appears at the configured public-channel or user-DM destination with the intended record context.
Inspect both the Play action and the message in Slack. Verify that the selected destination, owner mention, and optional intent context are correct.

Questions answered
Common decisions when connecting Unify and Slack.
Can Unify send Slack notifications from Plays?
Yes. After connecting Slack, add a Slack alert action at the relevant point in a Play and choose its destination and message content.[2]
Can Unify Slack alerts go to private channels?
The action reference documents public channels and direct messages to workspace users. It does not establish private-channel support, so confirm that requirement before designing a workflow around it.[2]
Can Slack alerts include prospect or company context?
Yes. Messages support template variables for the record that triggered the action, optional account-owner tagging, and intent context such as website or G2 activity.[2]
What happens when a Slack template variable is missing?
The message is still sent, with Unknown replacing the missing value. Validate a record with missing fields so the resulting alert is understandable.[2]
Do I need a Slack incoming-webhook URL?
The documented native setup authorizes the Slack workspace from Unify settings and uses the Slack alert Play action. It does not require pasting a Slack incoming-webhook URL.[1]
Limits & decisions
Check these boundaries before designing a live workflow around the connection.
- Public channels and user DMs are documented; private-channel support is not established here
- Workspace app permissions and the actual message destination must be checked in your account
What the connection supports
Understand the connection, the data involved, and the behavior that matters for a Unify + Slack workflow.
Public channel or user DM
| Decision | What to know |
|---|---|
| Connection | Slack workspace authorization[1] |
| Sending action | Slack alert inside a Unify Play[2] |
| Destinations | Public channels or direct messages to workspace users[2] |
| Message context | Template variables, optional account-owner tagging, and intent signals[2] |
| Missing template values | The message is sent with Unknown in place of the missing value[2] |
Use the Slack alert action's documented template controls. The native connection does not require the receiving webhook URL or JSON prospect payload used by the Zapier, n8n, and Gumloop recipes.

Connection requirements and setup checklist
Before connecting
- Permission to add an app to your Slack workspace under its current policy
- Access to Settings → Integrations → Slack in Unify
- A public channel or workspace user for the alert and a Play to configure
Authorize the workspace
Open Settings → Integrations → Slack in Unify and choose Connect. Approve the intended workspace on Slack's authorization page by choosing Allow.[1]
Confirm the connection
Return to the Slack integration settings in Unify and inspect the connection status.[1]
Add a Slack alert action
Choose the public channel or user DM destination in your Play. Customize the message with available template variables and, if useful, account-owner or intent context.[2]
Validate the destination and message
Run a controlled record through the action. Check the selected channel or DM and inspect how the message handles missing template values.[2]
Troubleshooting
Start with the stage where the expected data or action stops appearing.
Slack authorization is blocked
Ask a workspace owner or admin to confirm who can add apps under your organization's Slack policy.[1]
The message includes Unknown
A missing template-variable value is rendered as Unknown. Check the source record and adjust the message so missing context remains understandable.[2]
The desired channel is not covered by the guide
The action reference specifies public channels and user DMs. Do not assume private-channel support from those instructions.[2]
