Can You Call a Prospect in Unify Without Creating a Task?
Yes. You can call a prospect in Unify without creating a task. Open the person’s record and click a phone number, or use the phone icon near their name to choose one. Unify’s making calls documentation confirms that the call controls and outcome form are available on this path. An empty task queue does not, by itself, prevent an individual call.
You still need an active dialer, an assigned caller number, browser microphone access, and a usable prospect number. Calling from a record does not remove the contact’s restrictions or replace the setup requirements.
What must be ready before you call?
Check dialer setup first. A workspace administrator activates calling through Settings → Dialer. Check Your numbers for a number assigned to you; it is the number the prospect sees. Allow microphone access, connect your headset or speakers, and keep the Unify browser tab open.
Availability and number costs depend on your workspace’s setup. Review the allowance and any recurring credit cost shown before adding a number. If you need return calls forwarded to another phone, configure Callback number separately.
How do you call from the person’s record?
- Open the intended person and review their identity, phone number, and recent activity.
- Click their phone number, or use the phone icon near their name to select the number you intend to call.
- Read any warning or restriction before proceeding. During the call, use the audio controls and end the call when finished.
- Choose the outcome, add notes, and decide whether another action needs a follow-up task.
If the record has no number, the phone icon offers options to add one or request phone enrichment. Enrichment can return a number only when one is available. Check that any number you use belongs to the intended person.
How do you record the result without a task?
When the call ends, use the outcome form to record what happened and what should happen next. Your workspace’s call dispositions define the available outcomes. Bad number marks the dialed number invalid after a call made in Unify; Do not call opts the person out of future calls. Choose either only when appropriate.
A later reminder is optional: enable Create follow-up task when needed, then complete its form after logging. The task creation guide explains how to set timing, priority, and instructions for work outside a sequence. Creating that reminder after the conversation is different from needing a task before dialing.
Review the call in the person’s Activity tab. Any recording or transcript depends on recording settings and processing. CRM call sync also depends on enabled sync rules, field mappings, and connection permissions; saving the outcome alone does not guarantee that every attachment appears in the CRM.
When does a call task still matter?
| Starting point | What the task means |
|---|---|
| Person record | A task is not required to place the individual call. Log the outcome and add a follow-up task if needed. |
| Phone call task | The task carries planned work. Log call saves an attempt and leaves it open; Log and complete task completes that work. |
For a sequence call task, completion can advance the enrollment. A connected outcome can also offer an option to end it. Review that choice and the person’s enrollment progress before assuming another automated step should follow. A person-record call is not documented as automatically completing a separate pending task.
The task completion guide covers handling assigned work. For team ownership and queues, see managing cold calling tasks. Those workflows help organize planned calls; they are separate from whether you can dial an individual now.
What can prevent a call?
A call opt-out, invalid number, or applicable engagement policy can block calling. Warnings may also identify local calling hours or recent attempts to the same number; repeated attempts can temporarily prevent another call. Read the reason shown and resolve the underlying issue rather than creating a task to try to bypass it.
Use task management to organize any resulting follow-up. For the immediate call, return to the intended person’s record, check the number and eligibility, and use the documented phone action when ready.
Frequently asked questions
Can I call when my task queue is empty?
Yes. Open the person’s record and click a phone number or select one through the phone icon. Dialer setup and calling restrictions still apply.
Do I need an assigned Unify number?
Yes. Calling requires an active workspace dialer and a phone number assigned to you, along with browser microphone access.
What if the prospect has no phone number?
Use the person-record phone icon to add a number or request enrichment. A number is returned only when available; verify its association before calling.
Will the call complete a pending sequence task?
Do not assume so. The documented task workflow distinguishes Log call from Log and complete task. A person-record call is not documented as automatically completing another task.
Must I create a follow-up task after every call?
No. Create one when another action needs a reminder. Log an accurate outcome and notes whether or not further work is needed.
