Intro to Sequences
Sequences in Unify are automated email workflows that allow you to engage prospects at scale while maintaining a personal touch. Each sequence is made up of a series of emails delivered over time, triggered by behaviors, personas, or campaign logic. By building sequences, you can automate follow-ups and outreach without relying on manual effort—ensuring the right message reaches the right person at the right moment. In this module, you’ll learn how to build a sequence from scratch, leverage Unify’s built-in templates, and preview everything before going live.
To get started, log into your Unify instance and navigate to the Sequences tab in the left-hand sidebar. Click “New Sequence” in the upper right corner to open the Sequence Builder. Here, you can name your sequence and begin adding email steps. If you’re new to writing sequences, Unify provides a helpful email template guide to jumpstart your content. Two common templates are included: one for website visitors and one for new hires—each featuring four steps with placeholders and variables for easy customization. You can make a copy of this guide (linked in the video description), fill in your unique messaging, and leave the dynamic variables intact. These variables—like {first_name} or {company_name}—will resolve automatically when your sequence runs.
Once you have your messaging ready, return to the builder. You’ll start by naming the sequence and adding your first automated email, pasting in your subject line and message body. Unify will automatically detect any variables used and provide suggestions if you type { to see available options, including person, company, sender, and time-based variables. As you build, you can add delays between steps, set follow-up emails as replies, or start new email threads. For example, you might add a two-day delay after the first message, then follow with a reply email, another delay, and finally a fresh-thread email with a new subject line. This cadence mirrors the structure recommended in Unify’s template guide and creates a natural rhythm for your outreach.
Before publishing, use the Preview feature to simulate how your sequence looks across different personas. This helps ensure your personalization is rendering correctly, your tone is consistent, and your overall flow is smooth. Once you’re happy with how the sequence reads, click “Publish.” Publishing makes the sequence available for use in Plays or manual enrollment—but don’t worry, it doesn’t start sending emails yet. To activate the sequence, you’ll still need to connect it to a Play that routes an audience into it.
With that, your first sequence is live and ready. You’ve now built a complete email flow that can be triggered automatically—helping you follow up with the right contacts at scale, without lifting a finger. This is a core piece of the outbound automation engine, and it puts you one step closer to building a high-performing GTM motion inside Unify.
